Nabtrade, a leading share and trading platform within one of Australia’s Big Four banks, had aspects of its user experience unchanged for over a decade. Our team of two designers and a project lead set out to revamp the ETF scanner tools, enhancing platform traffic and user engagement. Over five months, we modernized the experience while addressing past development constraints, ensuring seamless accessibility across desktop, tablet, and mobile.
At the core of this redesign is our dedication to creating a user-centric and visually appealing interface for Nabtrade's website, prioritizing the enhancement of user experience and accessibility. This renovation features the integration of three pivotal elements: the Global Scanner, Dividend Calendar, and Virtual Portfolio. Through considerable attention to detail and innovative design strategies, we wanted to streamline navigation, enhance functionality, and provide users with a comprehensive set of useful tools for efficient global investment management. We aim to redefine Nabtrade's position as a superior platform, empowering users with the resources they need to navigate today's financial landscape with confidence and ease.

Our objective was to revitalize Nabtrade's platform by increasing traffic, enhancing user engagement, and adhering to their updated design standards. Nabtrade strives to encourage user adoption without overwhelming them, requiring a balanced approach. Catering to users of varying expertise levels—novice, intermediate, and advanced—using the ETF tools, clarity and simplicity were superior. Addressing old limitations, we aimed for seamless accessibility across all devices. Completing this within a few months, we allotted time for feedback and iterative design updates. Our goal was to develop a user experience and interface that seamlessly integrates features like the Global Scanner, Dividend Calendar, and Virtual Portfolio into modern times.

Nabtrade's Virtual Portfolio tool enables users to replicate real investment scenarios using risk-free strategies. Users can experiment with various portfolio approaches without the need to invest actual funds. This feature offers users a valuable opportunity to assess company performance in the market with high-level insights. Maintaining the simulation trading experience within a unified interface was the main priority.
We focused on enhancing the dashboard's visual interactivity while integrating essential data points such as performance graphs and portfolio movers. Additionally, we improved various tabs including summary, holdings, charting performance, and transactions to provide users with detailed information on their portfolios without having to navigate across multiple sections of the website. Overall, Virtual Portfolio was improved to help users gather the necessary information to make real trades.

Nabtrade's Global Scanner is a powerful tool designed to help users explore global investment opportunities. It features an expanded filter system and search functionalities, allowing users to refine their searches based on criteria such as market sector, region, and performance indicators. Our redesign aimed to highlight these functionalities while enhancing the overall user experience. We found that users were not engaging with the tool due to navigation difficulties and the challenge of locating appropriate screeners. To address this, we prioritized personalization and brought the tool up to modern standards.
Given that the Global Scanner had not been updated in over a decade, we were able to introduce several significant improvements. We added a wide range of themes to keep all types of investors informed about market activities. Additionally, we developed an intuitive filter system, allowing users to specify criteria such as basics, dividends, fundamentals, volume, technicals, and recommendations. This enhanced customization empowers users to make informed investment decisions by providing comprehensive insights into global markets through real-time data and alerts.

Nabtrade's Dividend Calendar serves as an essential tool, offering users a comprehensive view of upcoming dividend payments for their current investments. To align with our new design approach, we sought to enhance the user experience by modernizing the interface and improving the quality of users personalizing their dividend tracking. This upgrade to the tool transforms how users can add stocks and set notifications, offering a modern and user-centric approach. While the feature caters to advanced users, our focus remained on ensuring an effective design approach that enhances portfolio management without detracting from their experience.
